Since 1965 Opportunities, Inc. has administered programs for low and fixed income individuals and families in a 6 county area. Opportunities, Inc. is dedicated to the principle that all people have the right to be self sufficient in providing for their own needs without discrimination; that they have equal opportunity for education training, employment and career advancement; and, that they have just access to the necessities for physical, psychological and spiritual well being.
Opportunities, Inc. is dedicated to the principle that all people in need of the basics of life, due to misfortune beyond their control, have the right to assistance, whether public or private resources, in a manner that does not demote their dignity or self-respect.
On April 17, 2009 the Board of Directors of Opportunities, Inc. met in an all day session to hear presentations from management staff outlining their particular programs. Executive Director Les Stevenson gave a brief overview of the beginnings of Community Action and the war on poverty. Karla Seaman explained the Head Start Program. Chuck Sutej outlined Low Income Energy Assistance, Energy Share, HUD Housing, and the Weatherization Program.
After a wonderful lunch served at Colleen’s Restaurant, Kim Reynolds gave an overview of our Emergency Services Department and Curt Campbell discussed the Workforce Investment Act program for youth and the ARRA Summer Youth Program. Les Stevenson explained the Community Services Block Grant and Pat Campbell gave a brief description of the agency’s properties.
New Board members, Bill Salina, Cascade County Commissioner, James Hodgskiss, Teton County Commissioner and Daren Schuster, Chouteau County Commissioner along with local attorney, Lee LeVeque were among those who attended the session.
Ray Jergeson, Planner for Opportunities, Inc. led the Board in a discussion of priorities and goals for the future. At 6:00 p.m. dinner was served at Colleen’s after which the annual meeting was convened.
Elections were held and the officers for the new year installed by Fr. Anthony Gregori:
