Head Start

"Strengthening families for a positive future."

A nation wide effort sponsored and funded by the Department of Health and Human Services.  The Head Start mission is focused on providing comprehensive services to income eligible pre-schoolers and their families. Opportunities, Inc. Head Start is located in Great Falls, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, and Shelby.  In 2008, Head Start enrolled 356 children.

In December of 2009 we added a classroom in Vaughn School and one at Skyline School.  These classrooms were funded by an Expansion Grant from Department of Health and Human Services.
    
Our program believes the potential for learning is greatest during early years of a child's life, therefore, every possible learning opportunity should be provided to children at the earliest possible age.

Through Community Assessments we have found that the top needs for Head Start Families are:

The importance of family literacy is stressed throughout the program.  Parents are encouraged to observe and volunteer in classrooms and on field trips.  Activities they can do with their children at home are provided and encouraged.  Our families also gain the information needed to make a smooth transition upon leaving the Head Start program for school.
